Awar

Quote:

“Well I wish I could say ’the book was better,’ but it was based on an old history book. I mean ‘falling apart’ old. And I’m 100% certain the translation was terrible.”

~ Awar, after a showing of The Magic Circle

“I… haven’t seen him in a couple years now, he left to return the book he borrowed and I never heard from him again. Not a day goes by where I don’t worry, he was a good friend to alot of people.”

~ Awar, on Sunny

Gender:

Male

Profession:

Ticket seller at the Diadem movie theater. Co-star of the documentary film The Magic Circle.

History:

Awar Solomon works the ticket booth of Diadem’s old-fashioned Nickelodeon-style movie theater alongside his wife Mallory, who cleans the theaters, and his friend Dolma, who runs the snack counter. About three years ago the three of them, with their cameraman Sunny Sydup, spent a year filming The Magic Circle, a self-described “severely recreated” documentary about rediscovering Diadem’s ancient history from an old history book. They followed the legend of gathering twelve treasures to free the people, but the final reel is burnt out right before the climax, leaving only a “part 2 coming soon” card.

The film is a borderline slapstick disaster in which Dolma is hospitalized in a dozen different ways, while Awar, Mallory, and the cameraman are always just far enough away to escape harm. Awar explains that Dolma was headstrong and jumped into danger, Sunny was afraid to get close to the action, and that he and his wife had “been through a lot together, alongside some of our other friends,” so they saw trouble coming.

Sunny left to return the borrowed book a couple of years ago and never came back, and Awar still worries about him. He points newcomers looking for the history book toward the bookstore and the library. Sunny was in fact Samson von Sydow, who was split into a man and a rooster by Caelum’s transmutation, and he reunited with his old friends to film a far better remake after the fall of the Crooked King.
